Yankees fire Pentland, Tuck
Well, someone had to take the fall.
According to George King of the New York Post, the Yankees will not bring back assistant hitting coach Jeff Pentland and bullpen coach Gary Tuck.
The Yankees used two hitting coaches this season - the other being Alan Cockrell. Pentland told The Post: “When I signed, I was told it was probably a one-year deal. That was always in the back of my mind, but we didn’t look too good the last month.”
Cockrell could take over and fly solo, or the Yankees could go with the two-pronged approach again. The organization likes current Triple-A hitting coach Marcus Thames, as well as minor league hitting instructor James Rowson.
Tuck worked mostly with the catchers during his time in pinstripes. Brian McCann credits Tuck with improving his throwing mechanics ever since he came to New York. Former Yankee bullpen coach Mike Harkey was recently let go by the Diamondbacks, and could return to the Bronx.
