Yankees game 105 preview (8/4/15)
Masahiro Tanaka (7-4, 3.80 ERA) opens up the series against Henry Owens and the Red Sox. Tanaka gave up four runs on nine hits through six innings against the Rangers his last time out. This will be his second time facing Boston this season. He gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits through five innings for the win back in April. He is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA in four career starts against them.
Owens, the Sox number five prospect, makes his Major League debut in place of an injured Rick Porcello. The lefty throws a low 90's fastball, changeup and curve. He went 3-8 with a 3.16 ERA in 21 Triple-A starts this season.
It's going to be probably the biggest stage he's going to make his debut on, as the schedule has it. But ideally having another left hander go against that lineup in that ballpark would give us an edge. -John Farrell
