Six innings of one-run baseball from Adam Warren was backed up by a pair of doubles.
Chicago White Sox 1 â New York Yankees 2
Just enough offense to back up Adam Warren in today's game.
Adam Warren took the mound for the Yankees and Adam Eaton started the game with a single. He stole second and came around to score when Jose Abreu found the hole with a single to right field. Trayce Thompson got on base with a one-out single but he was erased from the bases on a slick double play turned from Rob Refsnyder to Didi Gregorius to Gregory Bird to minimize the damage to one.
Despite the rough first inning, Adam Warren followed it with a solid overall start. Adam Warren retired 10 in a row before running into his second stint of trouble. Mike Olt and Carlos Sanchez sandwiched a strikeout with a pair of walks. He walked Adam Eaton on four pitches to load the bases but got Jose Abreu to strikeout on a check swing to end the fifth inning with the deficit at just one.
While Warren settled in, John Danks cruised smoothly through his start. He allowed one batter to reach in each of the first five innings but he continued to strand them. He was able to avoid the big inning until the sixth inning and the Yankees got just enough.
After Didi Gregorius was caught stealing in the fifth inning, Jacoby Ellsbury got a clean at-bat to work from and made the most of it with a single. After Ellsbury stole second base, Chase Headley drove a ball deep to left center field, bouncing it over the wall and scored Ellsbury with the ground-rule double.
Alex Rodriguez followed with a laser ground ball to the left side, deflecting off the glove of Mike Olt and finding its way into the seats in left field for a second ground-rule double and giving the Yankees the 2-1 lead.
The Yankees got Adam Warren the lead and Adam Warren gave them a great solid start. In six innings, Adam Warren allowed one run on three hits while walking three and striking out four. All of the production from the White Sox can be found in the first and fifth inning with the remainder of his innings being perfect.
Justin Wilson came in for the seventh inning and made quick work of it, striking out two in his inning of work. The strikeout by Justin Wilson gave the team's relievers 571 strikeouts, tying the American League record, set by the 2014 New York Yankees.
Dellin Betances pitched an efficient and effective eighth inning to carry over the lead into the ninth inning. Andrew Miller got the ninth inning and deflected the first out off his leg, to no harm. Miller kept it going by striking out Trayce Thompson looking and Adam LaRoche swinging to end the game.
The strikeout of Thompson broke the tie previously mentioned. With 573, and growing, the 2015 New York Yankees relievers have set a new American League record.
