Right-hander David Phelps will be making his first career start for the Yankees tonight as they face the Kansas City Royals. Phelps replaced Freddy Garcia in the rotation after Garcia was demoted to the bullpen.
With Chavez and Swisher injuries leaving the bench short, the Yankees called up Jayson Nix from the Empire State Yankees. Nix is in left field and batting ninth.
According to Chad Jennings, Eric Chavez is not listed as a bench player. Guess is that he's going on the DL.
Left-hander Danny Duffy (1-2, 3.63 ERA) is on the mound for the Royals.
