Yankees game 35 preview (5/13/15)
Adam Warren (2-1, 4.65 ERA) and Nathan Karns (2-1, 3.79 ERA) are on the bump at the Trop in game three of four. Warren held the potent Orioles offense to just two runs and seven hits over 4 2/3 innings in a no decision his last start. This will be his third start against the Rays this year, he's thrown 9 2/3 innings giving up five earned runs in two no decisions.
Warren is one of just nine pitchers in the last 102 years to not pitch a complete six innings in his first nine career starts. The only two pitchers to take longer than nine games are Johan Santana and Travis Blackley, who went 11 starts before reaching the sixth.
Karns gave up two runs on four hits and nine Ks through seven innings and 117 pitches against the Rangers to get his second win. His start before that he only threw 66 pitches against the Orioles. "I don't think there will be any carry over in the sense of my arm being tired," Karns said. "I've had a few of those outings in my day. I think I had a couple over 100 in Durham, but not until late in the season. This is the big leagues, though, so you get a little extra gear up here. You can get 117 every now and then." In two career start against the Yanks, he is 0-0 with a 2.79 ERA.
Tidbits:
James Loney is hitting .444 with a homer and five RBIs off Warren in nine career at bats.
