Yankees Game 44: Nathan Eovaldi, Carlos Beltran stay hot as win streak hits 6
Toronto Blue Jays 0 – New York Yankees 6
After a successful road trip, the Yankees returned home for a division matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays.
After Nathan Eovaldi pitched a scoreless first inning that featured two ground outs back to him, the Yankees went to work on R.A. Dickey. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a fading line drive to right field that Jose Bautista made a diving attempt at, missing it and allowing it to roll into deep right field. With the dive, Ellsbury easily made it to third for a lead off triple.
After a walk of Brett Gardner, Mark Teixeira struck out but Carlos Beltran remained on fire as he hustled to beat out a double play, allowing Ellsbury to score on his ground ball to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Eovaldi worked around a pair of base runners with one out. He continued holding down the potent Jays lineup, allowing three base runners from the second inning to the seventh inning.
Carlos Beltran continues swinging a bat on fire in the fourth inning when he took Dickey deep to the second deck in right field for a solo home run. Eovaldi came out for the seventh inning and a two-run lead so Dellin Betances was warming behind him. After a lead off walk to Troy Tulowitzki, Eovaldi was pulled from the game.
In six innings, Nathan Eovaldi allowed no runs on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
After Betances picked up Eovaldi, including a pair of strikeouts, the offense put away tonight's game. In the seventh inning, Dustin Ackley reached with an infield single. After a pair of ground outs, Didi Gregorius was walked and Austin Romine went the other way with a ground-rule double into the right field corner, scoring one and ending Dickey's night. Reliever Joe Biagini gave up an infield single to Jacoby Ellsbury that added a fourth run to the Yankees lead. With the increased lead into a non-save situation, Kirby Yates pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
The Yankees added two more in the ninth so two of the big three got the night off as Luis Cessa pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the win. The Yankees have reached a .500 record with six wins in a row.
