Yankees place Aaron Hicks on 10-day DL with left oblique strain
If the Yankees are going to make a postseason run, they're going to have to do it without outfielder Aaron Hicks.
Prior to the series finale against the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees placed Hicks on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left oblique. As a corresponding move, the Yankees called up LHP Caleb Smith from the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Hicks was lifted in the seventh inning of yesterday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox after running down a ball hit by Hanley Ramirez in the sixth.
With Hicks out for the next week and a half, the Yankees will turn to $153 Million outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury to man center field. Clint Frazier, who was placed on the disabled list late last month, is slated to begin a rehab assignment on Wednesday. Frazier is eligible to return in time for the next homestand.
