Yankees Spring Training Game 12: Severino strikes out 4 in loss
Luis Severino struck out four in his start against the Tampa Bay Rays.
New York Yankees 1 – Tampa Bay Rays 2
The Yankees made a visit to the Tampa Bay Rays in this weekend Spring game.
Luis Severino started today's game and gave up a pair of singles in the first inning but stranded the runners. He had a good second inning with a pair of strikeouts and also worked around a pair of baserunners in the third inning. He worked into the fourth inning and exited with one on and two outs. Johnny Barbato finished the fourth inning and put an end to Severino's line of the day.
In 3 2/3 innings, Luis Severino allowed no runs on four hits while striking out four.
The Yankees offense could not get a rally developing against Matt Moore and the Rays' pitching staff. Johnny Barbato came back out for the fifth inning and gave up a pair of singles along with two outs before he hit Corey Dickerson to load the bases. A line drive to left field by Johnny Field brought in two runs for the Rays to break the scoreless tie.
Nick Goody pitched for the Yankees in the sixth inning and struck out the side. The Yankees managed to get on the scoreboard in the seventh inning when they manufactured a run. After Cesar Puello was hit by a pitch from Brad Boxberger, he stole second base. A pair of ground outs brought home Puello and cut the two-run deficit in half.
One run was all the Yankees scored today and was the difference in today's loss.
