Tampa Bay Rays 6 -- New York Yankees 7 [10 Innings]
Ronnier Mustelier walks off in today's 7-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in 10 innings.
Adam Warren started today's game and was hurt by an error by Kevin Youkilis. On a groundball by Jose Molina, Youkilis had a hard time moving it from glove to hand and gave the Rays an opportunity to score. Vidal Nuno would take over in the 4th inning to get through it. Francisco Cervelli helped Warren and Nuno in the 4th inning by catching two runners attempting to steal second base. Cody Eppley, Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, and Boone Logan all provided a scoreless inning of work. David Aardsma was given the task of the 9th inning with a lead. With a runner on second and two outs, Aardsma gave up a game-tying double that extended the game one more inning.
The Yankees brought the pop in their bat to today's game. Kevin Youkilis got the offense going with a no doubt two-run home run in the 1st inning. Speed is going to be a key part of the game and Brett Gardner scored after stealing second and Eduardo Nunez's triple brought him home. The home run swing reappeared when Travis Hafner went deep into right field for a solo home run, his second this spring. Youkilis turned the tide of a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead with another two-run home run, his second of the day and his fifth home run of the spring. One more home run would be needed to win this game and Ronnier Mustelier would provide it in the 10th inning. On a 3-2 pitch, Mustelier hit a high-arching home run with just enough to clear the wall and send Yankees fans home happy.
