Yankees sending scouts to evaluate Tim Lincecum

Free agent pitcher Tim Lincecum is set to have a showcase in February, and the Yankees are expected to give the former Cy Young award winner a look. When healthy, The Freak could devastate hitters with his funky delivery.  However, a laundry list of injuries, most recently his 2015 season ending hip surgery, have people doubting if he'll ever be effective again. He'll probably never be the same ace like he was during his two award winning seasons, but his agent Rick Thurman claims he's healthy and throwing every day. The Giants spent a lot of money signing Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija this offseason, so Lincecum will find a new home for the first time in his career. The Yankees have been shopping for a back-end of the rotation starter, and Lincecum could fit that bill. Since 2012, the righty had a less than stellar 39-42 record with a 4.68 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 577 strikeouts and 267 walks in 615 2/3 innings. If he can get to full health, he might be able to prove he's still a solid arm in the league. It's a big if, but it's worth the Yankees' time to give him a look. Plus, Lincecum shouldn't command a large contract, so they could catch lightning in a bottle.
