Dwight Gooden tossed seven innings and allowed three runs on five hits and struck out six. The only problem was that his opposition, White Sox starter Alex Fernandez, went eight innings and allowed three runs to push the game into extra innings.
New York was down 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. After an E4, walk, sac bunt and a single, Derek Jeter converted on an RBI sac fly to tie the game at three. Mariano Duncan and Wade Boggs combined for four of the Yankees’ seven hits on the night.
