Yankees Spring Training Game 13: Cardinals comeback and walk-off

New York Yankees 6 — St. Louis Cardinals 7

The St. Louis Cardinals walk-off in today’s 7-6 loss.

The Yankees got the offense started early today when Francisco Cervelli hit a single to bring in Ichiro Suzuki in the 1st inning to get a 1-0 lead. Then, a second run would score in the 2nd inning with an error. Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart are competing for the catcher’s job and both reached base before Ronnie Mustelier grounded out, bringing in Cervelli in the 6th inning. The Yankees would score one in the 8th inning and two in the 9th but it would not be enough. Brett Gardner’s Spring hitting streak is over though he did reach base on a walk.

Ivan Nova started today’s game and the only run he gave up in 3 innings of work came on a ground out. Pitcher Brett Marshall followed with 4 innings but would surrender the lead with 3 runs on 5 hits, including 2 home runs. Kelvin Perez would give up the lead and eventually be on record with the loss in today’s game after giving up 3 runs, 2 earned on a home run, and the last on the walk-off single.
