Yankees Game 131 Lineup: 8/31/12

Kuroda takes the mound tonight to kick off a key series against the Orioles in the Bronx

HUGE. That’s the one simple word that could be used to describe the next few series for the Yankees. The next few weeks on the schedule are full of games against division rivals, some of whom are just a few games back from the front-runners in the Bronx. The intense action kicks off tonight with the first of three games against the Baltimore Orioles.

Hiroki Kuroda gets the start tonight and will attempt to continue his season-long trend of holding opposing teams to very few runs (2.98 ERA), which has kept his club in nearly every game he throws. His last three starts have been exceptional, going 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA yet the Bombers haven’t helped him out by scoring many runs and really need to pick up the pace over these next few weeks in order to avoid losing their division lead.

Just over 30 games left on the schedule, the road ahead of the Yankees won’t be smooth, but they need to hang tough physically and mentally in order to make their strong playoff push as the end nears.
