The Machine returns

It’s been almost two weeks since DJ LeMahieu tested positive for COVID-19, but he’s reportedly on his way back to the big league club.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, LeMahieu is expected to rejoin his teammates this week ahead of opening day on July 23.

Recharged and ready to go

After the initial round of COVID tests a couple weeks ago, the Yankees found out that both LeMahieu and Luis Cessa tested positive for the virus and would need to quarantine before making their way to the Stadium for summer camp. Both were placed on the 10 day IL, giving them time to recover.

DJ was said to be asymptomatic, but was required to meet certain criteria, including producing two negative tests within 48 hours, before joining the team and starting his season.

Will LeMahieu be ready for opening day?

LeMahieu will be making the trip from his home in Michigan, where he was isolating, to the Bronx to join the Bombers.

The three time all star and three time gold glove winner was one of the Yankees players to remain in Tampa even after the official shut down of baseball in March. LeMahieu was reportedly at George M. Steinbrenner Field almost every day for workouts keeping himself in shape and ready to play ball.

Knowing The Machine, it shouldn’t take long for him to readjust to live action baseball. Even though there isn’t much time to ramp up, I would say we have a good chance of seeing DJ leading off on July 23 when the Yankees open up the season against the Washington Nationals.
