The perfect way to kick off the season

We don’t know when, or even if, the MLB season will start. Everything is up in the air right now. But if the season does in fact begin, there’s only one way to kick it off.

Astros at Yankees.

The thought process

You would have to think that MLB will want to do an opening weekend extravaganza. Each team plays a weekend series starting on Friday night.  Imagine a Friday night in mid June. Justin Verlander and the tarnished Astros heading up to the Bronx to take on former teammate Gerrit Cole and the Yankees in his first start.

You can’t tell me there is a juicer match up out there.

Not only will the stadium be absolutely rocking, but the talent level will be off the charts. The top two AL Cy Young finishers going at it. A bunch of all star position players that absolutely hate each other. The young California cool Aaron Boone against the oldest of the old school, Dusty Baker.

Punishment

Sure the Astros are never going to be seriously punished by the league for their actions. But what better way at an indirect punishment than this? Letting 50,000 Yankee fans unleash on them after being without baseball for eight months would be must watch TV. What kind of signs would fans bring? What would the bleacher creatures chant? The hype surrounding this series would be insane.

We don’t know if we will get any baseball this year, but if we do, there’s only one way to get it rolling.
