Yankees non-tender Holder; avoid arbitration with Cessa and Heller

BRONX, N.Y. β€” You’ve gotta know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em. At the non-tender deadline, the New York Yankees opted to let relief pitcher Jonathan Holder go.

The move isn’t altogether surprising. After a breakout in 2018, Holder regressed in 2019, posting a 6.31 ERA.

During his 18 outings in 2020, Holder, 27, sported a 4.98 ERA and a 5.22 FIP.

Conversely, the club avoided arbitration with relievers Luis Cessa and Ben Heller. The club also opted to tender catcher Gary Sanchez, who is due to receive a raise from his present $5 million contract.

Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, Luke Voit, Chad Green, Gleyber Torres, Clint Frazier, Miguel AndΓΊjar, and Jordan Montgomery are among arbitration-eligible players with the ability to negotiate new contracts before Spring Training.
