Yankees game 81 preview (7/4/15)
Michael Pineda (8-5, 4.08 ERA) and Nathan Karns (4-4, 3.26 ERA) get the ball for the Independence Day game at the stadium. Pineda took a tough luck loss his last time out against Houston allowing two runs on seven hits in his first ever complete game. His offense only pushed across one run and he took the L. This will be his third start against the Rays this season. He got the win on April 19 at the Trop and a no decision on April 29 at Yankee Stadium.
Karns pitched well in his last two starts, giving up just two runs in 12 innings. However, he was facing pitchers who had perfect games going so he took a loss and a no decision. He held the Indians to two runs on nine hits through six innings in his last start. He is 1-0 with a 3.07 ERA in three career starts against the Bombers.
Tidbits:
Pineda is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in five day games this season.
In eight starts at home this season, Pineda is 4-2 with a 3.67 ERA.
The Yanks have won three straight Fourth of July games. This will be the second time they face the Rays on this day. They won 4-3 back in 2012.
