Yankees Trade Banuelos to Braves
The Yankees have sent pitching prospect Manny Banuelos to the Braves for David Carpenter and Chasen Shreve. Banuelos signed with the Yankees in 2008 and was considered a top prospect going into the 2011 & 2012 seasons. However, he needed Tommy John in October 2012 causing him to miss all of 2013. He didn't return to form in 2014, posting a 4.11 ERA with a 71/31 strike to walk ratio in 76 2/3 innings between Single-A Tampa, Double-A Trenton, and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Carpenter, 29, was a reliable righty out of the pen for the Braves the last two seasons, posting a 2.63 ERA with a 10-5 record in 126 2/3 innings. Carpenter and Brian McCann are familiar with each other, as he was his catcher in Atlanta.
Shreve, 24, spent the majority of last season in the minors finishing with a 2.67 ERA in 64 innings. He made his major league debut in July and was called back in September when rosters expanded. In 12 1/3 MLB innings, he finished with a 0.73 ERA with 15 K's to just one run. He adds another lefty arm to the pen.
