Gary Sanchez earns back-to-back AL Player of the Week honors
After earning American League Player of the Week honors last week, New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez has earned the honors once again this week. https://twitter.com/MLB/status/770338058537431045 Last week, Sanchez hit .524/.600/1.190 with four home-runs and six RBI to earn the honors. This week, he improved on those numbers by hitting .522/.607/1.304 with five home-runs, nine RBI and scoring seven runs, making history in the process. https://twitter.com/FeinsandNYDN/status/770339319647051776 https://twitter.com/FeinsandNYDN/status/770358383618695169 As noted by Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, Sanchez is the first rookie in MLB history to win back-to-back Player of the Week honors, and the first American League player since Albert Belle in July 1998. Since coming up on August 3, he is hitting .405/.468/.893 with eight doubles, 11 home-runs, 21 RBI and has earned the starting catcher role for the Yankees. Of the seven players on the Yankees with 10 or more home-runs this season, Sanchez is one of them, and he has played at least 71 fewer games than any one of the others. He has played incredibly both behind the plate and in his at-bats, and has been an integral part in the excitement surrounding the Bronx and the Yankees 15-10 record in August.
