Heathcott headed to disabled list

After being scratched from last night’s game with a tight right quad, outfielder Slade Heathcott has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Heathcott was called up on May 20 after Jacoby Ellsbury went down with a right knee sprain.

Heathcott, 24, was off to a promising start in his young career going 6-for-17 (.353) with a homer, double and three RBI over 6 games. Manager Joe Girardi expects Heathcott to be out for about a month, if not longer, with what’s being a called a grade-2 quad strain.

Along with his well documented off-the-field problems, Heathcott has always had an issue with staying healthy. Outfielder Ramon Flores, who was hitting .294 with four homers and 15 RBI in 42 games with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, will be with the big league club in time for Saturday night’s game.
