Report: Yankees willing to trade Ivan Nova
The Yankees have prioritized the need for starting pitching going into the offseason, but they've also let teams know that Ivan Nova is available, according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post.
Sherman notes that since Nova has one year left until free agency, the Yankees would be willing to deal the 28-year-old righty for a younger starter with more years of team control. The Yankees are trying to sell the idea that Nova will have a bounce-back year in 2016 - another year removed from his Tommy John surgery. They also believe he'll be motivated to have a good season in a contract year. He went 6-11 with a 5.07 ERA this past season.
Nova's salary will be relatively low in '16, and he'll turn 29 in January and will enter the beginning of his prime. This whole idea fits into Brian Cashman's mantra going into the winter of "everyone is available." He's hoping a team bites and offers a deal that's too good to turn down.
Otherwise, Nova will remain in pinstripes as a solid back end of the rotation starter for next season.
