Yankees injury news and notes

Tuesday, May 12 is an important day for the Yankees, mostly because three of their injured starting pitchers will try to clear major hurdles in their comebacks.

According to Yankees beat writer Bryan Hoch:

Chris Capuano is set to throw in a rehab game on Tuesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, going either six innings or 90 pitches. Capuano could possibly return to the big league club next week. Adam Warren or Chase Whitley would then go to the bullpen, helping out a group that’s been relied upon heavily so far this season.

Ivan Nova will throw three innings or 45 pitches in an extended spring training game. The Yankees maintain that Nova could be ready to return in June. The 28-year-old righty is working his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Masahiro Tanaka played catch before Monday’s game with pitching coach Larry Rothschild. Tanaka reported no problems with his forearm/wrist, and will throw a 20-30 pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.
