Yankees Sign Mat Gamel
In the midst of a double-header against the Phillies and Pirates today, the New York Yankees have signed veteran first baseman Mat Gamel to a minor league contract. The dollar amount has yet to be determined. The signing indicates the Yankees are looking for depth at the minor league level.
#Yankees sign 1B Mat Gamel, who hasn't played since 2012 because of series of knee injuries, including with #Braves in 2014 #TransactionsBA

Gamel last played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2012 where he hit .246/.293/.348 in 21 games. He has battled a series of knee injuries over the past three years. Gamel was once regarded as a solid prospect but injuries and lack of playing time have derailed his career. He played a career high 61 games in 2009.
