Los Angeles Angels 3 — New York Yankees 11

Alfonso Soriano let a personal record stand for a day after tonight’s 11-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

After Brett Gardner checked if Josh Hamilton is ready to catch in left and Ichiro double checked, the Yankees offense really got started. Robinson Cano jumped on the first pitch he saw and got a single to center field. Alex Rodriguez would follow with a double to the left field corner. Curtis Granderson would walk and the hero of yesterday would come up with the bases loaded.

In yesterday’s game, Alfonso Soriano hit two home runs on the way to a career-high six runs batted in.

The Yankees left fielder would get a hold of an 88 mph fastball, bouncing it off the top of the wall in center field for a grand slam. With one swing and one inning, the Yankees had a four-run lead.

With two outs in the second inning, Chris Stewart was on base and Ichiro would walk. Robinson Cano would get his second hit of the game with a run-scoring single. A-Rod would walk to load the bases and Curtis Granderson would bring in one more run. Then, that Alfonso Soriano guy would come up with the bases loaded…again.

He wouldn’t hit a home run here but he would hit a ringing double into left field for two runs. That’s six runs batted in, tying the career-high he set last night. In the fifth inning, a new personal record would be set.

To start the fifth, Alfonso Soriano hit a deep home run to left field. The 24th home run of the season for Soriano is his second of tonight and the fourth home run in two games. He also has 13 RBI, breaking his career-high that he set last night.

With the tremendous run support, Ivan Nova was given some room to work. He allowed two runs in the third inning and one in the fifth. Mike Trout brought in two of the three runs tonight.

In 7.1 innings, Ivan Nova allowed three runs while scattering 10 hits (nine singles) while striking out six. He received a standing ovation as Preston Claiborne came in to take over.

While Robinson Cano was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, Curtis Granderson and Chris Stewart supplied a pair of hits; Alfonso Soriano continues to be the show and be the core of this recently potent offense. Alfonso Soriano is one of three players (Rusty Greer, Geoff Jenkins) to have back-to-back 6+ RBI games.

The Yankees now have a four-game winning streak. Yes, they actually do.

Win – Ivan Nova (6-4)

Loss – Jered Weaver (7-6)
