The Yankee’s struggles continued yesterday as they blew an 8-3 lead against the Red Sox and have dropped the first two games in the series. Hopefully the weekend turns out better than the last two nights. On the bright side, the Rays have lost the last two nights as well, so the Yankees remain only 2.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot, but have been passed by the Orioles and the Indians, who are both 2 games back. Lastly, the A’s passed the Rangers and now are the sole possessors of the AL West. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rangers: 6-5 loss vs Angels. Matt Garza continues his struggles on the Rangers as they relinquish their AL West lead.

Rays: 6-4 loss vs Mariners. Justin Smoak’s 2-RBI double in 8th leads Mariners past Rays.

Orioles: 4-0 win vs White Sox. Scott Feldman pitches complete game shutout.

Indians: 8-1 win vs Mets. Scott Kazmir strikes out 12 Mets.

Yankees: 12-8 loss vs Red Sox. Mike Napoli’s grand slam set tone for Red Sox win.

Royals: 16-2 loss vs Tigers. James Shields surrenders 10 runs on 14 hits in 3.2 innings.
