Derek Jeter re-signs with Nike as “Captain” of Jordan Baseball and Training

A series of poetic posts by the Jordan Brand Twitter account, which included images of Derek Jeter and made references to “RE2PECT,” were posted this afternoon, ultimately leading to an article announcing that Nike has re-signed Jeter.

In the announcement, Jordan Brand announced the newly created role of ‘Captain’ within their baseball and training categories, the position in which Jeter will occupy within the company.

Jordan will also continue Jeter’s signature RE2PECT line, which was created and launched as a limited-edition line around Jeter’s final season with the Yankees.  The RE2PECT line will continue with training/lifestyle shoes and apparel, seeing Jeter actively making creative decisions such as style and color, and consulting on the fit of the new items.  New RE2PECT items are set to hit shelves in Spring 2017.

In his role as Captain of the Jordan Baseball and Training, he will help identify and recruit baseball players who emulate the hard work, dedication, and on-field values he brought to New York to the brand, and will work with the Jordan Brand Sports Marketing, including Jordan himself, to continue to build the Jordan family of athletes.

In the aforementioned article by Nike, Michael Jordan had the following to say in regards to Jeter:

“Derek is one of the hardest workers I have ever met,” said Jordan.  “His work ethic was evident in the way he played the game of baseball and it continues to drive the way he approaches his business career after retirement.  We are excited to continue our relationship with him and for what he brings to the brand as we continue to grow.”

Jeter also responded to the announcement.

“I am thrilled to continue my relationship with the Jordan Brand,” he said.  “I spent my entire baseball career trying to be the best player I could be and I am excited to help the next generation reach that goal through Jordan Training and Baseball.”
