MRI scheduled for Youkilis

Kevin Youkilis will undergo an MRI today with hopes of determining what the next course of action will be regarding his stiff back, according to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. Youkilis returned to the lineup on Saturday after missing six games, but did not play yesterday.

Youkilis, 34, is in his first season with the Yankees after signing as a free agent, and is currently hitting .266 with two homers and seven RBIs. Jayson Nix has been filling in at third, but this limits Joe Girardi’s use of Lyle Overbay at first base against lefties; Youkilis has played five games at first already this season.

Should Youkilis land on the DL, look for the Yankees to possibly call up another infielder to back up Nix.
