Garrett Cooper scheduled to make MLB debut tonight

Cooper is set to join the Yankees big league roster prior to Friday night's game against the Boston Red Sox. He will start at first base, and will bat sixth in the order. The 26-year-old gets his first crack at the big leagues just a day after he was acquired in a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers. Cooper is the youngest of seven children in his family, and is expected to have 11-12 people in attendance for tonight's game.

Prior to being traded, he was having a fantastic season for the Brewer's Triple-A affiliate. In 75 games, the right-handed hitter posted a slash line of .366/.428/.652, including 17 homers and 82 RBIs. He was also selected as a Triple-A All-Star this season. With a need for production from the first base position, the Yankees are hopeful that Cooper can help fill the void. Expect Cooper to get the majority of his at-bats against left-handed pitching, as he should split his playing time with Ji-Man Choi for the time being.
