According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson suffered a broken arm today in the first inning against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Toronto starter J.A. Happ hit Granderson on the right forearm during his first at-bat. Granderson ran down to first base, but was checked out by team trainers and taken out of the game. Initial reports came back that Granderson had a bruised forearm, and was going to be taken to get precautionary X-rays. However, the results showed a fracture.
Granderson, who will be 32 on March 16, is expected to miss about 10 weeks, which means he won’t be appearing in a major league game until at least the beginning of May. Granderson led the Yankees in home runs in each of the last two seasons, belting a career high 43 last year while driving in 106 runs – he is in the final year of his contract with the Yankees.
This represents a major blow to the Yankees offense, considering they lost about 100 home runs to free agency this offseason. The catching battle was the main storyline this spring, but now the Yankees will turn their attention to finding a replacement left-fielder.
Granderson has a fracrured right forearm. Estimated that he will be major league ready in 10 weeks.
