Minors Wrap-Up: Ortiz’s Great Performance Wasted

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Ramon Ortiz turned in seven innings of one-run ball, but saw a great effort wasted as the Yankees couldn’t put anything together offensively. Ortiz allowed just five hits and struck out seven. Justin Thomas took the loss when he allowed three runs on four hits in just two-thirds of an inning. Ronnier Mustelier was one of the few offensive threats, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Kevin Russo and Chris Dickerson were the only other Yankees to record a hit, with Russo knocking in the team’s only other run.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Trenton’s game Friday was rained out. A doubleheader starting at 5:05 pm will be played Saturday.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa’s game Friday was rained out.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs
Charleston fell to Greenville 7-3 as starter Wilton Rodriguez struggled and dropped to 1-3 on the season. Rodriguez allowed four runs on seven hits in just four innings of work. Charleston had put together 12 hits, led by Tyler Austin and Reymond Nunez. Austin, in his usual third spot in the line-up, went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Nunez took Gary Sanchez’s usual cleanup slot and turned in a 3-for-5 performance which included a double. The team’s downfall came with runners in scoring position, as they were just 3-for-17 on the night and left 11 runners on base.
