AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s offense exploded on Monday night, turning in eighteen hits as they defeated Charlotte by a score of 14-2. Every Yankee in the lineup except catcher Gustavo Molina had at least one hit, with Jack Cust, Cole Garner, and Brandon Laird all homering on the evening. Kosuke Fukudome made his debut with the team, starting in right field and recording three hits in five trips to the plate. Most impressive was Ramiro Pena, who went 4-for-5 out of the ninth slot in the lineup. The Yankees’ ace, Ramon Ortiz, took to the mound and earned his seventh win of the season with six innings of work. Ortiz allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five hitters.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Rob Segedin has struggled since joining the Thunder on July 4th, but came through in a big way last night. The 23-year old’s lone hit was an RBI single in the 8th inning which gave Trenton the 6-5 lead which they would hold onto for the victory. Trenton’s bats were going on all cylinders today, with Addison Maruszak and Zoilo Almonte hitting back-to-back home runs in the 4th inning. Two innings later, Melky Mesa joined the party as well, blasting his 12th home run of the season. All three players had a multi-hit game. On the mound, Mikey O’Brien returned from the disabled list to pitch four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits. O’Brien would strike out three. Graham Stoneburner got his first win of the season for Trenton, tossing three innings while allowing just one run.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa played two on Monday against Jupiter, and saw the pitching staff throw shutouts in both games as they won each 1-0. In the first game, Matt Tracy continued his breakout season with 5.2 innings of two-hit ball, earning his fourth win of the season before giving way to All-Star closer Mark Montgomery. Montgomery would record the final four outs for his 14th save of the season. Tampa managed just two hits of their own in the first game. In the nightcap, Aaron Dott, Manny Barreda and Branden Pinder combined for a seven-inning shutout, with Barreda earning his fifth win of the season. Tampa’s lone run in the second game was driven in when Kyle Roller blasted a ground-rule double to left field, scoring Ramon Flores.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs
Charleston gave up one in the ninth as they dropped to the Greenville Drive last night 3-2. Matt Bashore had started for the Riverdogs, holding Greenville to just two runs on five hits over five innings of work. He had three strikeouts on the day. For Nick Goody, he may have taken the loss, but it was far from a bad performance. Five of the six outs recorded by Goody came by way of strikeout, and he allowed just the two hits that resulted in the winning run. Offensively, it was Tyson Blaser who contributed a multi-hit game, while CF Ben Gamel and RF Cody Grice drove in the Riverdogs’ two runs.

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fell to the Buffalo Bisons 10-3 on Sunday as veteran John Maine imploded on the mound. Maine (L, 2-3) lasted just 4.2 innings pitched, allowing six runs to score on four hits and four walks. After Maine left, Preston Claiborne, Justin Thomas, and Manny Delcarmen would allow at least one run each to add to the blowout loss. Doug Bernier and Ramiro Pena were the only Yankees to turn in multi-hit games, and Bernier added an RBI along the way on the team’s only extra base hit. Brandon Laird and Chris Dickerson each chipped in an RBI as well. As a team, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre left ten runners on base.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Errors would ruin Trenton’s chances for a victory Sunday afternoon, as Yadil Mujica, Shaeffer Hall, and Rob Segedin each committed one a piece. As much as the errors hurt though, there was a severe lack of offense at Waterfront Park yesterday. Melky Mesa had the team’s lone RBI in the first inning and the Thunder lacked offense after that. Addison Maruszak had to leave yesterday’s game after experiencing dizziness from dehydration, pre Josh Norris of the Trentonian. Shaeffer Hall got the start for Trenton and tossed six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. Craig Heyer took the loss after allowing a run in 1.1 innings of work.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Gary Sanchez was one of the few bright spots for the Yankees on Sunday as he hit his second home run of his short Tampa career while producing a pair of hits on the day. Other than the home run and an Adonis Garcia RBI single in the eighth inning, there wasn’t much offensively for Tampa. In fact, the biggest splash offensively was probably made off the field, as recently promoted top prospect Tyler Austin hit the disabled list with a head injury. Caleb Cotham started for Tampa and pitched five innings of one-run ball. Cotham would allow just four hits while striking out two. Unfortunately for Cotham, the lack of run support would hand him his fourth loss of the season.

Class A: Charleston Riverdogs
The Riverdogs scored four in the thirteenth inning last night to push them past the Savannah Sand Gnats by a score of 8-4. Tyson Blaser and Casey Stevenson powered the new look Charleston offense that lost three of their biggest stars to promotion earlier this week with a combined 6 RBIs. Blaser, 4-for-6 on the day, had RBI singles in both the first inning and the thirteenth inning. For Stevenson, a 2-for-6 day included a thirteenth inning double which brought home Charleston’s final two runs and sealed the victory. Scottie Allen had started for Charleston and turned in a very good performance, allowing only an unearned run on two hits while recording six strikeouts in five innings pitched. John Brebbia got the win with three shutout innings, allowing just one hit along the way.

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Scranton/Wilkes Barre topped Lehigh Valley on Wednesday 8-5 in an explosive fashion. Both Brandon Laird (6) and Russell Branyan (11) homered for the Yankees, providing half of the team’s runs with one swing of the bat. Corban Joseph, Cole Garner, and Gustavo Molina all contributed RBIs and at least two hits on the evening to help the cause as well.  Every starter except for Chris Dickerson (who left after two at-bats) and Ramiro Pena had at least one hit on the evening. On the mound, Nelson Figueroa got his sixth victory of the season. The veteran allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over six innings. After he left, the Yankees bullpen combined for three perfect innings to close the game out.

AA: Trenton Thunder
J.R. Murphy and Rob Segedin each made their debuts with Double-A Trenton on Wednesday, and combined to go 0-for-7 with a walk on the evening. The show offensively was stolen by Addison Maruszak, who came up a triple short of the cycle, but ultimately Trenton wasn’t able to do enough to overcome New Britain. Luke Murton brought home the team’s only other run, scoring Maruszak on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Mikey O’Brien was on the mound for Trenton last night, throwing six innings of one-run ball. O’Brien allowed just three hits and struck out four. Kelvin Perez was handed his first loss of the season after allowing two runs on six hits in three innings of work, arguably his worst outing of the year.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa couldn’t overcome Brevard County on Wednesday despite starting pitcher Matt Tracy leaving them with a lead in the sixth inning. One of the breakout stars of the system this year, Tracy threw five innings, allowing three runs (two of which were runners left on base when he exited in the 6th) on three hits. He would not factor into the decision though, as things were blown apart when Sean Black entered. Black allowed both inherited runners to score, then allowed a couple more of his own to score over three innings. He would be charged with his fifth loss of the season. Ramon Flores and Zach Wilson contributed multi-hit games for Tampa and each brought a runner home in the loss. Tampa’s only other runs were as a result of Kyle Roller’s sixth inning two-run home run.

Class A: Charleston Riverdogs
Despite losing the three biggest names on their roster this week, the Charleston Riverdogs just keep finding ways to win. Yesterday, it was strong pitching by SP Bryan Mitchell that put Charleston over the top. Mitchell went five strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. He also struck out three to earn his sixth win of the season. Ali Castillo hit a third inning single which brought home Kelvin De Leon and Eduardo Sosa to give Charleston an early 2-1 lead that they would never relinquish. The third and final run for the Riverdogs came when DH Francisco Arcia stole home as part of a double steal where Cito Culver headed towards second and the ball was thrown away as Savannah tried to come back home to nab the runner. Culver had a solid game at the plate as well, going 2-for-4.

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
The way that Dellin Betances has pitched this season, he must truly be aiming to become the next “Wild Thing.” Betances showed no control again last night, allowing seven walks and throwing two wild pitches in just 4.2 innings. The rest of the line was decent enough – Betances gave up two runs on three hits while striking out six hitters. Yet again, Betances managed to throw just 52% of his pitches for strikes as Scranton dropped another game to Louisville, this time by a score of 5-3. After Betances left, Chase Whitley entered, and it just wasn’t his night. Whitley tossed two innings allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and took the loss for the evening. Scranton’s offense was yet again non-existent, scrapping together just four hits on the day. If not for home runs by Russell Branyan (7) and Jack Cust (14), this one would have been a lot uglier.

AA: Trenton Thunder
The Thunder fell to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in twelve innings last night by a score of 7-5. Vidal Nuno, who has been phenomenal since being promoted from Tampa earlier this season, struggled out of the gate last night, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits in six innings of work. Nuno also struck out four. After leaving, Kelvin Perez took over with three more shutout innings, lowering his season ERA to 0.82. Michael Dubee was the eventual loser after allowing two runs in the bottom of the 12th. Offensively, the team saw solid performances from Addison Maruszak, who went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. Melky Mesa (3-for-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Zoilo Almonte (2-for-6, 2B, 2 R) also contributed with multi-hit games.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Shane Greene’s solid performance on the mound Wednesday night was wasted as the Yankees fell to the Daytona Cubs 3-2 on a walk-off home run. Greene had tossed six innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out six. Manny Barreda was charged with the loss after allowing the walk-off home run in his third inning of work. Offensively, the Yankees strung together 12 hits, but were only able to manage two runs after leaving ten runners on base. Ramon Flores, Rob Segedin, Kyle Roller, Eduardo Sosa, and Jose Mojica all put together multi-hit games in Tampa, though only Roller and Neil Medchill were able to bring runners home.

Ramon Ortiz pitched another great game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre today, earning his sixth win of the season. The veteran righty tossed 7.2 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. Offensively, the Yankees jumped on the Syracuse Chiefs right away, as eight men hit in the first inning while they scored three runs. Corban Joseph had the lone home run for Scranton today, as he added an insurance run with a solo shot in the 5th inning. It was Joseph’s fourth home run of the season. The Yankees also got impressive offensive performances from Ronnier Mustelier, Francisco Cervelli, and Jack Cust, all of which picked up two hits on the day.

AA: Trenton Thunder
The Thunder shut out the Harrisburg Senators 4-0 today, thanks to the combined effort of four pitchers in a “bullpen game.” Ryan Pope got the start for the Thunder, and went three innings before handing it off to Francisco Rondon, who picked up his fourth victory of the season. Preston Claiborne would toss 2.2 perfect innings, and Kelvin Perez lowered his season ERA to 0.89 with a scoreless 9th inning. Addison Maruszak was the leader of the offense today, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Abe Almonte also had a pair of hits from the leadoff spot, while Zoilo Almonte had an RBI double in the 5th inning to provide Trenton with an insurance run.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa is off today as they conclude the All-Star Break.

Class-A: Charleston RiverDogs
With today’s 4-2 loss to Greensboro, the RiverDogs have now lost six of their last seven games, dating back to June 10th. Today, it was Matt Bashore who took the lost despite allowing just one run on three hits in four innings of work. Tyler Austin, back from the disabled list, went 3-for-4 on the day. He also had some help on offense from fellow top prospects Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez, with each getting two hits in four trips. Charleston was really hurt today by going just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Adam Warren took the loss in a rough outing last night where he lasted just 5.2 innings while allowing four runs on eight hits. He dropped to 2-3 on the season, and his ERA has now ballooned to 5.14. Of the four pitchers used by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, only Manny Delcarmen manged to escape without allowing a run. I feel like this is getting old, but yet again, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre couldn’t do much of anything on offense. Other than a Steve Pearce double which scored two runs, the Yankees managed just three hits. Pearce’s two RBI bring him to 27, which leads the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

Trenton 4, Akron 3

The Thunder won in walk-off fashion on Thursday night, as Luke Murton singled home Jose Pirela in the bottom of the 9th to finish off a comeback from down 3-0. Cody Johnson was arguably the MVP of tonight’s game, as he went 2-for-4 and hit his twelfth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the 6th inning. But it his at-bat in the 9th that earned him the honor of being tonight’s MVP. Leading off the inning, Johnson stroked a double deep to center field and gave way to Pirela, the eventual winning run. Addison Maruszak also homered on the night for Trenton. Ryan Flannery got the win for the Thunder, and lowered his ERA to 0.81 in the process with a scoreless 1.1 innings pitched.

Tampa 5, Palm Beach 2

Tampa scored one in the 9th to tie the game, then put four runs on the board in the 10th inning to give the Yankees a four run lead headed into the bottom of the inning. Branden Pinder entered, but made it through just two-thirds of an inning before allowing a run and leaving with the bases loaded. Mark Montgomery would come on and close it out for his 8th save. But how did the game get to this point? An excellent pitching performance by Matt Tracy, who allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five batters in six innings of work. J.R. Murphy went 2-for-5 to deliver the only multi-hit performance for the Yankees. Rob Segedin, who entered the day with an eleven game hitting streak, went 0-for-4, though did reach base with a walk in the 10th inning.

Charleston 7, Greenville 6

All season long, Tyler Austin has been building his stock up with one phenomenal performance after another, and last night was no different. Austin went 4-for-7 in last night’s 13-inning affair, and came through with a walk-off single to keep the RiverDogs in first place. Dante Bichette had a big night as well, going 3-for-6 and raising his batting average to .245 on the year. Gary Sanchez only had one hit on the evening, but he made it count with a two-run home run in the 8th inning. Mariel Checo pitched a scoreless 13th to pick up his 5th victory of the season.
