Buffalo 6, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 2
Adam Warren took the loss in a rough outing last night where he lasted just 5.2 innings while allowing four runs on eight hits. He dropped to 2-3 on the season, and his ERA has now ballooned to 5.14. Of the four pitchers used by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, only Manny Delcarmen manged to escape without allowing a run. I feel like this is getting old, but yet again, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre couldn’t do much of anything on offense. Other than a Steve Pearce double which scored two runs, the Yankees managed just three hits. Pearce’s two RBI bring him to 27, which leads the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Trenton 4, Akron 3
The Thunder won in walk-off fashion on Thursday night, as Luke Murton singled home Jose Pirela in the bottom of the 9th to finish off a comeback from down 3-0. Cody Johnson was arguably the MVP of tonight’s game, as he went 2-for-4 and hit his twelfth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the 6th inning. But it his at-bat in the 9th that earned him the honor of being tonight’s MVP. Leading off the inning, Johnson stroked a double deep to center field and gave way to Pirela, the eventual winning run. Addison Maruszak also homered on the night for Trenton. Ryan Flannery got the win for the Thunder, and lowered his ERA to 0.81 in the process with a scoreless 1.1 innings pitched.
Tampa 5, Palm Beach 2
Tampa scored one in the 9th to tie the game, then put four runs on the board in the 10th inning to give the Yankees a four run lead headed into the bottom of the inning. Branden Pinder entered, but made it through just two-thirds of an inning before allowing a run and leaving with the bases loaded. Mark Montgomery would come on and close it out for his 8th save. But how did the game get to this point? An excellent pitching performance by Matt Tracy, who allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five batters in six innings of work. J.R. Murphy went 2-for-5 to deliver the only multi-hit performance for the Yankees. Rob Segedin, who entered the day with an eleven game hitting streak, went 0-for-4, though did reach base with a walk in the 10th inning.
Charleston 7, Greenville 6
All season long, Tyler Austin has been building his stock up with one phenomenal performance after another, and last night was no different. Austin went 4-for-7 in last night’s 13-inning affair, and came through with a walk-off single to keep the RiverDogs in first place. Dante Bichette had a big night as well, going 3-for-6 and raising his batting average to .245 on the year. Gary Sanchez only had one hit on the evening, but he made it count with a two-run home run in the 8th inning. Mariel Checo pitched a scoreless 13th to pick up his 5th victory of the season.
