Game 101: CC K’s 14 To His 15th

From the beginning of the game, CC Sabathia looked untouchable. Not only did Sabathia have 7 consecutive strikeouts of his career-high 14, but he was untouchable for 6.1 innings. His attempt at perfection ended by Brendan Ryan’s 2-0 single. As you watched the game progress, it was clear that all of his pitches were on spot and he had full confidence behind each of them.

Nature tried to intervene with Sabathia’s rhythm as there was a half hour rain delay during the 5th inning but he returned and continued to look strong. Later after another rain delay of about 14 minutes, Sabathia’s control and sharpness didn’t look like it was there again as he walked 3 consecutive batters in the 8th and required assistance from the bullpen to end this one-hitter.

His run support came in the 4th when Curtis Granderson went the opposite way to hit his 28th home run of the season. Mark Teixeira also provided run support with the long ball as he also hit his 28th home run of the season.
