Game 105: Take 2 In Record Ways

With a win already in the standings, the Yankees added a second win with a sweep of the doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles.

You could say that the game was over from the 1st inning as the Yankees set a franchise high for runs scored in the 1st inning with 12. 7 singles, 2 walks, 2 doubles, and 1 home run made for the 12 runs that knocked the Orioles starter Zach Britton out with 0.1 of an inning pitched.

Every starting Yankee got a hit and a run scored while 8 of the 9 drove in a run (except Curtis Granderson). Robinson Cano had a career-high 5 hits to drive in 5 runs tonight. Andruw Jones hit a long home run to left field that hit the back of the Orioles bullpen.  8 of the 9 starters had a multi-hit game (4 with 2 hits, 2 with 3 hits, 1 with 4 hits, and 1 with 5 hits), only Brett Gardner got 1 hit.

Ivan Nova also made his return to the MLB roster with 7 innings pitched, while only having serious problems getting the free-swinging Vladimir Guerrero out. All the problems he had with Guerrero could not prevent Nova from securing his 9th win easily.
