Game 138: Jeter Drives In 5 For Sweep

In a 9-3 victory, Derek Jeter drove in a career-tying 5 runs. Today’s start was CC Sabathia’s first start since his 128-pitch effort against the Boston Red Sox. He showed no effects of the season-high pitch count he utilized.

CC Sabathia got his 19th win in 7.1 innings and struck out 10. He went deep into the game and the bullpen finished it off smoothly. The only additional run allowed was Jose Bautista’s deep home run for his 40th of the season.

3 of Derek Jeter’s 5 runs came in the 3rd inning on a three-run home run to left field. Alex Rodriguez also provided a run with his 15th home run the opposite way to right field in the 6th on a pitch he thought he didn’t get enough of but it just reached the first row. Later Nick Swisher also hit his 22nd home run in the 8th inning into the 2nd deck in right field.

The Red Sox also lost this afternoon to the Rangers to give the Yankees a 1.5 lead in the AL East.
