Game 142: Andino Ties & Wins It

In today’s makeup game for one of the many rained out games earlier in the season, the Orioles walked off with a 5-4 victory on Robert Andino’s single.

The action behind the plate for Francisco Cervelli came with authority in the 7th & 8th inning as the Yankees backup catcher endured 2 collisions to preserve what was then a 4-3 lead. Unfortunately he couldn’t prevent Robert Andino from tying the game in the 8th with another single.

Ivan Nova was dependable as usual by going 5.1 innings and allowing just 3 runs but he didn’t factor in the decision. He had difficulties with the free-swinging Vladimir Guerrero as he managed to get a home run off of the Rookie of the Year candidate.

With September, the call-ups tend to play a big role. The call-ups will play a bigger role in the Yankees season than usual as the schedule has been stacked with game after game thanks to all of the poor weather conditions. Girardi’s intent on allowing his starters to rest requires the call-ups to fill in the big shoes of the effective regulars the Yankees depend on. Names like Brandon Laird, Ramiro Pena, and Greg Golson will be penciled into lineups while relievers Aaron Laffey and Scott Proctor play prominent roles against notable batters.
