Game 46: Teix Takes Two Deep

New York Yankees 9 — Oakland Athletics 2

Mark Teixeira went deep two times in today’s 9-2 win over the Oakland Athletics.

With 14 hits, the Yankees offense continues piling on the offense in this series against a weak Oakland Athletics team. Mark Teixeira’s 4 hits included a solo home run in the 4th off of former Yankee Bartolo Colon and a two-run home run in the 9th to put up some extra run support for the pitchers. He put on 5 runs on the scoreboard and appears to be swinging with more authority, producing more extra base hits, especially home runs. Robinson Cano went back-to-back games with a home run as he went deep to right field off of Colon as well. In just 6 opportunities with runners in scoring position, the Yankees got a total of 2 hits, which by percentages is a slight improvement in what they have been doing recently. Derek Jeter also managed to get 2 hits today, the second putting him in a tie with George Brett for 14th place on the all-time hits list with 3,154 hits.

CC Sabathia took the mound after two consecutive losses in his previous starts. Early danger produced one run and a third inning home run by the current offensive threat in the Oakland lineup, Josh Reddick, produced all the runs that Sabathia would allow. He went 7 innings and allowed just the 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2. This gives the Yankees a four-game winning streak, tying their longest of the season.

Win – CC Sabathia (6-2)

Loss – Bartolo Colon (4-5)
