Preview: Yankees at Orioles (7/12/14)

Greene

Shane Green (1-0, 2.84 ERA) goes for his second Major League win against Chris Tillman (7-4, 4.11 ERA) and the O’s. Greene earned his second big league start after six strong innings of two run ball on Monday in Cleveland. He relyed heavily on his sinker to produce ground balls. “It was a little bit of a roller coaster ride earlier in the season,” said Greene, “but it feels good to be here.”

Tillman has quality starts in four of his last five games and he pitched well in his last start against Washington. He matched Stephen Strasburg’s seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits. The Yanks were expecting to see Ubaldo Jimenez this game, but he was placed on the 15 day DL with a right ankle injury. “There’s not a whole lot going to go on physically for a few days until all the swelling gets out of there,” Buck Showalter said. “He’s got it wrapped up pretty good right now, trying to compress the swelling.”

On the topic of injured pitchers, CC Sabathia has canceled an appointment with Dr. James Andrews to visit with two other orthopedic specialists to check on his right knee. The Yankees haven’t released any details from the visits, but Joe Girardi has said that it is “fair to say” his season is over.

Notes on the game
