Preview: Yankees at Rangers (7/29/14)

Brandon McCarthy (2-0, 1.45 ERA) brings his unbeaten pinstripes record to Texas to face Nick Martinez (1-6, 4.73 ERA). Since coming to the Yanks on July 6, McCarthy has been a staple in the reconstructed Yankees rotation. “It’s a nice feeling,” McCarthy said. “It’s the opposite of how I felt earlier this year, where I was a burden on my team. I was a guy that was holding things up. To come here and feel good about myself again, to contribute to a playoff race, is a great feeling.”

In his first start since July 1, Martinez threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings against the Yankees, allowing just three hits in 67 pitches. “It was nice,” Martinez said. “Coming off a start like that is good. We didn’t get the win, but coming off the DL and having a strong start like that definitely plays a role in this next start.”

Mark Teixeira avoided his 1975792524th DL stint. He received a platelet rich plasma injection as treatment for his strained lower lat. He should be in the lineup sometime this week. “I wasn’t expecting all the little annoying things that come up. That’s part of the game,” Teixeira said Monday. “Hopefully this is it, and I have two healthy months to finish the season. But missing a couple of games here, a couple of games there, it’s never fun.”
