Preview – Yankees at Rays (4/17/15)

The Yanks continue their road trip and the next stop is Tampa Bay. Adam Warren (0-1, 1.69 ERA) will make his fifth career start and Nathan Karns (1-1, 4.97 ERA) will be on the hill for the Rays. Warren only allowed two runs (one earned) over 5 1/3 innings in his season debut, but his offense didn’t reward his efforts and he took a loss. In 10 relief appearances, he is 0-1 with a 3.06 ERA against the Rays.

Karns had a quality start on Sunday for his first win of the season. He held the Marlins to one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings.  He said that facing the Yankees in Spring Training should give him “more of an idea than just going off paper.”

Brett Gardner has been day to day after being hit by a pitch on the right wrist on Monday. He had an X-ray, which came back negative, but Girardi held him out to be safe. He could return to the lineup tonight.
