Preview: Yankees at Red Sox (9/26/14)

Oh yeah, there’s three more games to go. No last night wasn’t the end of the season as much as some of us would like to think it was. Chris Capuano (1-3, 4.73 ERA) makes his last start of the year against his former team. He will take on Steven Wright (0-0, 3.38 ERA) in the first game in Fenway. Capuano will make his 12th start of the season and possibly last in pinstripes. He has a 6.61 ERA in September, which started by allowing four runs to the Red Sox.

Wright will make his first start of the season, the second of his career. He has posted a 3.38 ERA and 9.00 K/BB ratio in five appearances in 2014 as a long reliever. He is taking Rubby De La Rosa’s spot in the rotation. De La Rosa lasted only four innings Saturday against the Orioles and has gone less than five innings in five of his last seven starts, hence his bump from the rotation.

Derek Jeter said after Thursday’s game he will not play shortstop in this series. He wants the last images of him at short to be at Yankee stadium, but out of respect for the Boston fans and the rivalry he will play in some capacity. “Out of respect for the Red Sox, their fans and the rivalry, I’m going to DH,” Jeter said  I don’t know about Friday. I’m not sure. I will play, but I hope that people can respect my decision on that. I’ve only played shortstop for my entire career, and the last time I want to play it is Thursday.”

Notes on the game

The Yankees are 10-6 against the Sox this season.

The Yankees have secured their 22nd consecutive winning season, the second longest streak behind the Yankees from 1926-1964 (39 seasons.)
