Preview: Yankees @ Orioles (9/11/13)

The AL Wild card remains wide open and up for grabs. Andy Pettitte (10-9, 4.03 ERA) and Scott Feldman (5-4, 3.63 ERA) make their case for their teams tonight at Camden Yards. Pettitte pitched well on Friday against the Red Sox before the bullpen gave away the, giving up three runs on five hits over six innings. The veteran lefty has now pitched five straight quality starts. “I felt good. I hate it,” Pettitte said. “I wish I’d gone a little bit deeper in the game, but all my pitches were working. It was a game where you feel maybe like you could’ve got a little bit deeper.”

Feldman is coming off one of Baltimore’s best pitching performances of the season. He went the distance in Friday’s 4-0 win over the White Sox, allowing just five hits and dominating the White Sox for Baltimore’s first complete game this season.

The series is split after two games, but more importantly, the American League Wild Card race continues to heat up. The Rangers lead the Wild Card pack, and they are followed by the Rays, but the O’s and Indians are tied at 1 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay, with the Yankees just half a game back, two games behind the Rays.

Derek Jeter continues to receive treatment on a sore left ankle, and the Yankees have given no timetable for his return. The Yankees said the captain should be considered day to day for the rest of the season. He had a CT scan after he was removed from Saturday’s 13-9 loss to the Red Sox which came back negative.

David Robertson threw 11 pitches in the bullpen on Tuesday without any issues with his pitching shoulder and could return to action soon. He has not pitched since September 5.

Notes on the game.

Chris Stewart returned to the Yankees’ lineup Tuesday after missing Monday’s game with a bruised left foot. He went 1-2.

The Orioles lead the season series 9-8.

First pitch at 7:05 PM on Yes.
