Preview: Yankees vs Blue Jays (8/21/13)

Adam Warren (1-2, 3.57 ERA) will make his second career start, first one this season as he takes on R.A. Dickey (9-11, 4.49 ERA) in game three of four. Warren’s only other career start came on June 29, 2012, when he gave up six runs over 2 1/3 innings. The righty has posted a solid 3.57 ERA as the Yanks long reliever this season with 46 strikeouts over 58 innings.

Dickey allowed four earned runs Friday against the Rays, as many as in his previous five road starts combined. He’s thrown at least seven innings in his last three starts, but homers have plagued Dickey, averaging 1.4 HR/9 IP compared to 0.9 in 2012.

Robinson Cano entered exclusive company Tuesday, hitting his 200th homer as a Yankee. “It means a lot,” Cano said, who is now 16th on the all time list in Yankees history. “As a kid, you always dream to be able to hit one. Then, to hit 200, it means a lot to me. Right now, we’re in a situation where we need to win games. It’s good to hit 200, but it’s great to get a win.”

“That’s special,” added Joe Girardi. “Two hundred home runs is a lot of home runs, and obviously, he’s got a lot of career left in him. He had a big day, and he got us right back in the game with that three-run homer.”

Cano finished the day 6 for 8 with five RBIs and a run scored, and he has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games. With 23 homers this season, Cano has reached the 20-homer plateau for a fifth straight season. He is just two homers shy of tying Bill Dickey (202) for 15th place on the Yankees’ all time list.
