Preview: Yankees vs Orioles (7/6/13)

Andy Pettitte (5-6, 4.40 ERA) takes the mound in a afternoon game against Chris Tillman (10-2, 3.68 ERA) and the Orioles. Pettitte’s last time out agains the Twins, he surpassed Whitey Ford for the Yankees’ all time strikeouts lead. However, he wasn’t happy with the outing, taking a no decision after serving up a go ahead homer in the sixth. He’s 0-3 with a 5.84 ERA in his last four starts.

Tillman has won seven straight, the longest Baltimore streak since Brian Matusz won seven straight between 2010-11. The last Orioles starter to have a longer streak than Tillman’s was Erik Bedard, who won eight straight in 2007.

Hiroki Kuroda was cleared to begin throwing again Friday. He was originally scheduled to pitch against the Orioles on Friday, but he will not start a game this series.

Robinson Cano is 10-19 off Tillman in his career, including two homers and seven RBIs.

The two Orioles batters with the most experience against Pettitte are Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis. Roberts is 16-62 (.258) in his career and Markakis is 12-37 (.324) lifetime off the Yankees all time strikeout leader.
