Preview: Yankees vs Royals (9/7/14)

Shane Greene (4-2, 3.88 ERA) and Yordano Ventura (11-9, 3.38 ERA) get the honors of pitching on Derek Jeter day. Greene is coming off the worst start of his rookie season. He allowed a career high six earned runs in just 2 2/3 inningsĀ against theĀ rival Sox on Tuesday, resulting in his first loss since July 21st.

AfterĀ missing hisĀ previousĀ start with a sore middle back, Ventura came back strongĀ K-ing seven RangersĀ and allowed three runs (two earned) in 6 1/3 innings earning his 11th win of the season.

Despite the playoff implications for both teams, today will be about theĀ legendary Jeter, who isĀ in the dark as to theĀ plans for the tribute. “I don’t know anything. I haven’t been told. I don’t even know what time I have to be here tomorrow,” Jeter said. “I don’t know if that’s by design, but no one’s told me anything. I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to something that I assume would be pretty special.” The YankeesĀ will be wearingĀ commemorative Jeter patches to wear until the end of the year. Jeter said he does not plan on preparing for his speech. “I think you just let it happen, but I don’t know. I’m really trying not to think about it, because right now I’m trying to get ready for this game today,” Jeter said Saturday. “I’m sure I’ll think about it maybe on the drive in tomorrow, but at this point, I have by design tried not to think about it.”

Martin Prado hadĀ another solid game hitting third in the lineup after sitting out three games. He collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, in theĀ win.

Notes on the game
