John Danks (9-8, 4294 ERA) and the White Sox come to town to take on Shane Greene (3-1, 2.91 ERA) and the Yanks. Greene continued his impressive rookie season throwing six innings of two run ball against the Rays his last time out. He had a career high 10 strikeouts with just one walk, helping the team win another one run game.

Danks is 1-2 with a 8.37 ERA since the break. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits over six innings against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

With the Yanks win and Tigers loss Thursday, New York is now 4 games back in the second wild card. Joe Girardi says they are not paying attention to who is ahead of them in the standings in a packed race. “My bigger concern is us, not the other teams,” Girardi said. “Because if we don’t win, it doesn’t matter what the other teams do in front of us. My focus is still our club, and if we play really good baseball down the stretch, we have a shot.”

Masahiro Tanaka will throw live batting practice on Saturday as he continues to rehab the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. “Each step he increases intensity,” said Girardi. “I’m sure BP will be a little bit more intense than bullpens.”

Notes on the game

This game marks the 52nd game started by a Yankees rookie pitcher, the most in the Majors. They are 32-19 this season in games started by a rookie.

Chicago has lost five straight at new Yankee Stadium and is 5-12 overall.
