Sevy leads Yankees to series victory over Houston

NEW YORK — The Yankees wanted a series victory over the defending World Series champions, and they got it with the help of their ace, as they defeated the Astros, 5-3, at Yankee Stadium.

Facing Dallas Keuchel, Luis Severino was amazing in tonight’s game, striking out 11 Houston batters in seven innings. The only damage done against him was a two-run homer from catcher Max Stassi in the fifth inning.

The Yankees, however, scored enough runs to get Severino and the team the series victory.

Right away, New York scored a run in the first inning, on a sacrifice fly by Giancarlo Stanton. It could’ve been a lot more than that, but Jake Marisnick made an incredible catch to rob Stanton of extra bases.

Though Houston would take the lead in the top of the fifth, the Bombers would immediately get it back in the bottom half of the frame. With the bases loaded and two outs, the struggling Gary Sanchez came through with a two-out single to right field. That gave New York the lead, 3-2.

The Yankees then added two more runs in the sixth, on RBI knocks from Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks.

Though Aroldis Chapman allowed a run in the ninth, it was all Houston would get as the Cuban locked down his twelfth save of the season.

David Robertson also pitched a perfect eighth inning in the win.

The Yankees head to Baltimore tomorrow, with Sonny Gray pitching the opener against Andrew Cashner.

Current Yankees Record: 35-17
