Yankees Game 117: Freddy Wins Despite 2 Hamilton Homers

Texas Rangers 2 — New York Yankees 3

Josh Hamilton’s one-man offense was not enough in the 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers.

Freddy Garcia went 6.2 strong innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6. The Rangers scored off the bat of just one batter, Josh Hamilton. He took Garcia deep for a home run in the 4th inning and an even deeper home run in the 6th inning. The good news of this for the Yankees was that these home runs came with the bases empty. Boone Logan got the last out of the 7th inning as the final pieces were set into motion for the win. David Robertson pitched a perfect 8th with two strikeouts. Rafael Soriano pitched the 9th inning and went through the heart of the Rangers lineup, including getting Josh Hamilton to strikeout on the way to his 29th save of the season.

The Yankees offense got going in the 3rd inning after Jayson Nix got on to leadoff the inning. Derek Jeter would get on base and Nick Swisher continued to flourish in the 2 spot of the lineup. Nick Swisher hit a double to left field to bring in the first run of the game to get the offense started. Curtis Granderson managed to bring in another run on a sacrifice fly. Eric Chavez continues to make the most of the opportunity with Alex Rodriguez’s injury to man the hot corner. Chavez’s first hit of 3 in tonight’s game brought in the 3rd run of the 3rd inning. This inning was just enough runs needed to defeat Josh Hamilton’s two home runs.
