Yankees Game 125: CC And Swisher Set Things Right

New York Yankees 3 — Cleveland Indians 1

Nick Swisher was the entire Yankees offense in CC’s return to the mound in tonight’s 3-1 win over the Cleveland Indians.

CC Sabathia made two returns. His return to Cleveland and his return from an elbow injury. The injury seemed to be non-existent as he went 7.1 strong innings on 100 pitches. He would have all of his pitches working as he struck out 9 and walked just 1. The only damage came on a solo home run to Asdrubal Cabrera following a pitch that could have been retaliation for a pitch, thrown behind the body of Cabrera, that hit Yankees’ Derek Jeter in the helmet earlier in the game. Sabathia pitched an outstanding game and put fans and players at ease knowing that the ace has returned to the top of his game. David Robertson pitched through 0.2 of an inning and finished off the 8th inning. Rafael Soriano pitched into a precarious position when the tying runs were on the bases at 2nd and 3rd. After a strikeout and a pop out, pinch-hitter Casey Kotchman would get walked to load the bases as the potential game-winning run. He would get Jack Hannahan to ground out to first and end the game with a win.

The Yankees offense came from the top of the lineup. Derek Jeter led off the game with a double into right-center. Nick Swisher would back up that double with a double of his own into nearly the same spot in right-center to put the Yankees ahead 1-0. Nick Swisher would come through again for a two-run home run in the 7th inning to put the Yankees ahead and was responsible for driving in all 3 runs for the Yankees. Robinson Cano also came through for a double in tonight’s game but Swisher was clearly the offensive star of tonight’s game.

Win – CC Sabathia (13-3)

Loss – Cody Allen (0-1)
