Yankees game 128: Braves assist Yankees in the win

New York Yankees 3 – Atlanta Braves 1

The Yankees took the second game of the series with the help of the Braves yet again.

Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a double against Matt Wisler. The Braves starter retired the next two batters but walked Brian McCann and Greg Bird to load the bases. Wisler threw a wild pitch that allowed Ellsbury to score and put the Yankees ahead.

Thank you, Braves.

Luis Severino took the mound and gave up a single on the first pitch to Nick Markakis. After the first out, Freddie Freeman walked but Severino got Nick Swisher to ground into a double play to end the inning. Severino retired six of the next seven that he faced. In the fourth inning, Severino faced two-out trouble when Adonis Garcia hit a double and Jace Peterson walked but he bounced back with a strikeout of Christian Bethancourt to end the inning.

The Yankees were held off the scoreboard until the seventh inning.

Chase Headley led off the seventh inning with a double. Didi Gregorius followed with a double of his own, scoring Headley and giving the Yankees the two-run lead. Wisler was out of the game and Matt Marksberry came in. He got Drew to pop out before pinch-hitter Alex Rodriguez was intentionally walked. Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner struck out against the lefty to end the inning.

In six scoreless innings, Luis Severino allowed four hits and walked three while striking out five. While his pitch count was at 88, the opportunity to score was hard to pass up. Curses to National League and pitcher’s having to bat.

Justin Wilson got the call in the seventh inning.

He started the inning with a single to Christian Bethancourt and Andrelton Simmons. On a ground ball to Bird, the Yankees attempted to turn a double play but Justin Wilson could not complete the trail end of the play when he missed the catch at first with the Braves first run scoring on the error. After the second out, Dellin Betances got the call with two outs. After a walk, Dellin Betances generated a ground ball back up the middle that he took care of himself.

On the no-look backhand, Betances snagged the ball and got the final out of the seventh inning.

Brian McCann added a run in the eighth inning with a double following the walk of Carlos Beltran.

Dellin Betances scattered two hits in the eighth inning but struck out two en route to a scoreless inning.

After a scoreless ninth inning for the Yankees, closer Andrew Miller got two strikeouts before getting a ground out
